A Strange Week

Aguero scored how many points?

aguero-week-8-2-points

Along with so many others who play the game, 9 out of the 10 members of the Forfeit League decided to give Aguero the nod as Captain. Usually, it’s the smartest choice you can make; this week it turned out to be a nightmare.

Not only did Argentine striker start on the bench against Everton, but when he did eventually come on, his sole contribution was a missed penalty. Leaving those of us who captained him, with a net score of -2 points. An unheard of points return for a player of his pedigree.

On its own, that would make Gameweek 8 a strange week of Fantasy Football. When you combine it with some fantastic performances from unlikely sources and a dull, scoreless draw between heavyweights, Manchester United and Liverpool, a fixture drenched in history and well known for its fireworks, you have a truly rare game week.

Furthermore, there were some strangely positive performances too. For the few who put their faith in Stekelenburg (Everton keeper), on the week he visited Manchester City; the reward was banking an astonishing 17 points. The big shot stopper not only saved Aguero’s penalty, he also managed to save a penalty from De Bruyne and racked up a further 7 saves. Combined with this, Holebas from Watford netted a goal for his team as well as keeping a clean sheet. That added up to a whopping 15 points for any fantasy manager lucky enough to have him

Another big plus for the weekend was Holebas from Watford. Holebas was effective at both ends, netting a goal for his team as well as keeping a clean sheet. That added up to a whopping 15 points for any fantasy manager lucky enough to have him in their roster.

So what can we learn from this week? Well honestly, I don’t think there’s much to consider from this week.  At the end of the day, rushing out to transfer Stekelenburg into your team is likely fools gold. Nothing more than a once off, freak occurrence unlikely to be repeated this season. Holebas, is a nice cheap alternative in your defence but is unlikely to be a top scorer as the season progresses.

As for Aguero, I guess we’ve learned that he’s human after all.
